Patio Build In University Park in Dallas
Not every client knows exactly what they want — and that’s perfectly okay. In this University Park project, the homeowner trusted Bobcat Custom Construction to take a vague vision and transform it into something functional, beautiful, and seamlessly integrated with what was already there.
The backyard was a bit tight, and the homeowner had already invested in some existing masonry and flagstone. Rather than tear everything out and start over, we worked with what was already in place. The key challenge? Matching new stonework and construction to the existing materials in a way that didn’t look pieced together. The result: you can’t even tell where the old ends and the new begins.
This freestanding shed-style covered patio functions as an additional outdoor room — one that’s now used constantly. Anchoring the space is the existing flagstone fireplace, which serves as both a visual and practical focal point. We added a full wood-burning firebox for ambiance and warmth, but placed the TV above a nearby bar counter instead of over the fireplace, allowing both zones to function independently while maintaining a unified design.
The shed-style roof keeps the footprint clean and modern, while offering protection from sun and rain. Natural wood posts and beams support the structure and tie in with the earth tones of the stonework. The mounted TV, bar counter, and lighting elevate the space into something more than just a patio — this is an outdoor living area that feels like a true extension of the home.
From concept sketch to final build, we delivered exactly what the homeowner didn’t know they needed — until it was on paper. At Bobcat Custom Construction, helping clients visualize and realize the full potential of their backyard is what we do best.
