Covered Patio Build In McKinney, TX
Shade is a premium in North Texas — especially when you’ve got a pool and a beautiful golf course view, but only a single tree to provide relief from the sun. That was the challenge this McKinney homeowner brought to Bobcat Custom Construction. He wanted to extend his existing aggregate concrete patio and add a roof for usable space year-round. But the layout of the pool made that vision a bit tricky.
If we’d placed the support pillar where it would typically go — at the outer corner of the patio — it would have landed directly in the pool. That’s obviously not an option. But we don’t shy away from creative challenges. Our solution? Re-engineer the structure using a steel beam to carry the load of the roof. By shifting the support pillar back toward the house and installing a steel beam across the span, we eliminated the need for a poolside pillar while still achieving the large patio cover the homeowner wanted.
We coordinated with our engineers to ensure the plan was sound, and once approved, we covered the steel beam with wood so it would blend seamlessly with the rest of the structure. The result is a clean, elegant covered patio that doesn’t compromise on size or structure. It maintains a clear view of the pool and golf course and adds shade, comfort, and visual appeal.
This project is a great example of why working with an experienced contractor matters. Some companies told the homeowner it couldn’t be done — but we made it happen through teamwork between our masons, architects, engineers, and carpenters.
